On the afternoon of Monday 14th September the High Commissioner Her Excellency Yamina Karitanyi delivered a keynote to members of the Rotary Club of London on Fighting Genocide Ideology and lessons that can be drawn from Rwanda’s story. Rotary is a global network of 1.2million people, whose core activities include promoting peace and goodwill across the globe.
The High Commissioner emphasised the importance of education and the annual commemoration, Kwibuka for rememberance & “to ensure the evils of the past are never repeated and a glaring spotlight is pointed at the evils that continue today such as denialism and fugitives evading justice.”
Turning to Rwanda’s development today, the High Commissioner noted “We have made great strides towards our ambitious goals and the well-being of citizens has been put at the centre of this development.”
The High Commissioner concluded “As Rwandans we have gained an ideological clarity which we call ‘Ubunyarwanda’, the precious national unity and cohesion which is driving us towards achieving the Rwanda We Want. Our country is safe, secure and is positively looking towards the future.”
