The first facility on the African continent where smartphones are manufactured has been opened in Rwanda. The Mara phones production plant is located in the Kigali Special Economic Zone of Rwanda’s capital city.

The plant was inaugurated on Monday 9th October by President Paul Kagame, speaking at the launch the President noted that the new smartphones join a growing list of high-quality products that are made in the country.

Rwanda continues to grow its reputation as a hub for innovation and the President added that the opening of the plant “is another milestone on our journey to high-tech, “Made-in-Rwanda” industry”.
